It was a bit of a good news/bad news situation earlier this week surrounding Ricky Gervais‘ “The Office” spinoff film, “David Brent: Life On The Road.” The good news was that Netflix had picked up the movie for nearly the entirely world, but the bad news was that it wouldn’t hit their service until next year, even though it’s opening in the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand this summer. And so a new trailer is here, but it’s a helluva tease, because we won’t be seeing the movie for quite some time.

At any rate, David Brent is back, and since moved on from his days at Wernham Hogg. He’s now chasing his dream of stardom, self-financing a UK tour with his band, Foregone Conclusion, while making ends meet as a traveling salesman. The results look to be expectedly cringe-worthy, and hopefully like “The Office,” it won’t skimp on the heartbreak that comes alongside Brent’s cluelessness. And I’ll be curious to see how the tone might be changed with Gervais’ longtime collaborator Stephen Merchant not involved with the movie.
Check out the trailer and let us know if you think it’s a welcome return for the character. “David Brent: Life On The Road” will arrive in most of the world in 2017.
