One of the most critically acclaimed films to come out of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival is finally making its way to theaters. The first trailer for “Burn Country,” which premiered at Tribeca under the name “The Fixer,” has now landed, and it features some high profile actors like you’ve never seen them before.
Dominic Rains, who won the Best Actor Award at Tribeca, stars as Osman, a fixer for western journalists in Afghanistan who comes to the US and begins work for a small newspaper. While investigating a disappearance in a small country town in California, he quickly finds that there’s more than meets the eye in this mystery thriller from director Ian Olds. Melissa Leo stars as the country sheriff who is in charge of a murder investigation, and James Franco is featured playing a local man who befriends Osman, with Rachel Brosnahan and Thomas Jay Ryan rounding out the cast. Here’s the official synopsis:
In BURN COUNTRY, Osman (Dominic Rains) leaves behind his life as a fixer for Western journalists reporting on the war in Afghanistan. He lands in a small bohemian town in Northern California, living on the couch of his friend’s mother (Melissa Leo) and working as a crime reporter for the local newspaper. Restless and eager to penetrate the mysteries of his new home, he strikes out on his own, befriending the unstable hot tub craftsman Lindsay (James Franco) and an elusive local actress Sandra (Rachel Brosnahan). But when Lindsay goes missing under troubling circumstances and Osman goes after him, he is drawn deep into the backwoods of this small town. As things take a dangerous turn and an unfamiliar form of violence ignites around him, Osman is forced to confront the increasingly untenable reality of his new life.
“Burn Country” opens in theaters and hits VOD on December 9th.
