New York Film Festival Preview: 19 Films To Watch At 2023’s Fall Fest

“Evil Does Not Exist”
From Oscar-winning director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (“Drive My Car”) is the story of a serene village close to Tokyo that is on the verge of being disrupted by a plan to build a glamping site offering a comfortable “escape” to nature. “Evil Does Not Exist” stars Hitoshi Omika, Ryo Nishikawa, Ryuji Kosaka, and Ayaka Shibutani.

“Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World”
The new film by Romanian writer/director Rada Jude (“Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn”) follows an overworked and underpaid production assistant who films workplace safety videos and must speak to work accident victims in the process. The film star Nina Hoss, Uwe Boll, Katia Pascariu, and Sofia Nicolaescu.

“The Beast”
Adapted from Henry James’s 1903 short story “The Beast in the Jungle,” Bertrand Bonello’s “The Beast” tells the story of a young woman living in the future where emotions have become a threat as she decides to undergo a surgical process to have her DNA and memories removed. “The Beast” stars Lea Seydoux, George MacKay, Guslagie Malanda, and Dasha Nekrasova. 

“Janet Planet”
Lacy is an 11-year-old spending her summer days at home with her mother. As the months pass, she realizes she isn’t the only person captivated by her mother as three enigmatic adults drift in and out of their lives. Written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker. Lacy is played by Zoe Ziegler, who stars alongside Luke Bosco, June Walker Grossman, Julianne Nicholson, and Will Paton.
