New York Film Festival Preview: 19 Films To Watch At 2023’s Fall Fest

“Foe”
Starring the beloved Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, “Foe” is set in 2065 as a midwestern couple can go beyond their climate-change-destroyed world. Living on a farm that has been in the family for generations, this sudden proposal sends their lives into turmoil. The film is directed by Garth Davis (“Lion,” “Top of the Lake”), who co-wrote it alongside Iain Reid.

“Maestro”
“Maestro” is a highly anticipated biopic focusing on Leonard Bernstein and his relationship with Felicia Montealegre. Martin Scorsese initially planned to direct the film, but Bradley Cooper grabbed the reigns when he stepped down. Cooper is a co-writer and producer and stars as the legendary composer. Alongside Cooper, the film stars Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, and Miriam Shor.

“The Settlers”
Pulling some inspiration from the American West while also standing entirely on its own, “The Settlers” is a story of colonialist violence in Chile at the turn of the 20th Century. The film is directed and co-written by Felipe Galvez Haberle and stars Mark Stanley, Sam Spruell, and Alfredo Castro.

The Delinquents
Already acclaimed at Cannes (read our review), one of the highlights of the Un Certain Regard section, this Argentinian heist dramedy from Rodrigo Moreno has the ideas of capitalism, exploitation, and pay and class inequity, centering on a group of bank tellers and workers who decide to rob their own bank to take back some of what they believe is owed to them for all their hard work. Daniel Elías, Esteban Bigliardi, Margarita Molfino and more co-star.
