Got a Tip?

Nicholas Hoult aka Beast Says Some Comic Book Movies Are Just “Packaging” Following “A Bankable Formula”

X-Men Days Of Future PastAs we get ready to enter Marvel’s Phase Three next year with "Captain America: Civil War," it remains to be seen if the comic book titans will make any significant change to the template that has served them so well. Granted, they have taken "risks" with "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "Ant-Man," but even on a fundamental story level, both movies followed more or less the same structure and template, one that is repeated in many of the Marvel films. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. will show the world what direction they’re taking with DC Comics when "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" drops next spring. But one actor who is part of a big comic franchise himself — Nicholas Hoult aka Beast from the "X-Men" films —doesn’t think some movies in the genre are doing enough to do something new.

"At times I’ll see superhero movies and admittedly be frustrated by them," he told NME. "It does feel like some are just packaging and they’re not trying hard enough because they know it’s a bankable formula."

But naturally, that sentiment doesn’t include the "X-Men" series, which Hoult credits with having well written characters and great actors like Michael Fassbender to play them. "The superheroes in that world aren’t smug. You don’t want to watch someone who you know is going to win from the start just being awesome for two hours," he added.

Fair point. Having real stakes involved with some of these movies would certainly be welcome. Thoughts? Let us know below. [via Comic Book Movie]
