Nicole Holofcener Pens French Remake 'Unforgiving World' For Nanette Burnstein To Direct

While we’re still slightly miffed that Nicole Holofcener‘s excellent “Please Give” was pretty much ignored during awards season last year, the good news is we won’t have to wait too long for another project from her mighty pen.

THR reports that the writer/director has penned “Unforgiving World,” a remake of the 2008 French film “Notre univers impitoyable” for Nanette Burnstein to direct. The comedy (the original was, though that title seems something more akin to a dark drama than a laffer) follows a newlywed couple who work at the same architecture firm and find themselves battling for the same high-powered promotion. Don’t fuck where you work, guys. Anyway, this remake deviates slightly from the original which took place in a law firm, but the general idea is pretty much the same.

Burnstein made her fictional feature debut last year with the pretty terrible Drew Barrymore rom-com “Going the Distance.” She’s probably better known for her documentaries “American Teen” and “The Kid Stays In the Picture” and we think she will be good fit for Holofcener’s material, which tends to be a lot more complex that it initially appears on the surface.

No word on casting or when this might roll just yet, but check out the trailer for the French film below.
