Got a Tip?

‘Nomadland,’ ‘The Crown,’ ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Top 2021 PGA Awards

Like most of the past year’s awards ceremonies, the 32nd Annual Producers Guild of America Awards were a virtual event, but a fast one. Lasting just XXX, the PGA honored the best in television in film. The big winner of the night, however, was “Nomadland,” which took the PGA Award for Theatrical Motion Picture.

It should be noted that every Searchlight Pictures title that won Best Picture also won the PGA Award.

The third time was the charm as “The Crown” finally won the Episodic Drama award. “Schitt’s Creek” ended its PGA eligibility winning the Danny Thomas Award for Episodic Comedy. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” won Outstanding Game and Competition Television program for the second year in a row. The only Oscar nominee in the Documentary category, “My Octopus Teacher,” was the surprise winner. “Soul” took the Animated Feature honor. The Producer award for Televised or Streamed Motion Pictures went to “Hamilton.”

In the Live Entertainment & Talk Television category “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” won for the sixth year in a row. “The Last Dance” took the Non-Fiction honor.

In a preview of what could be an insanely competitive Emmy race, “The Queen’s Gambit” took the Limited Series award over “I May Destroy You” and “The Undoing.”
