Oh “Prometheus,” you’re so close, yet so far away! After the debut of the enigmatically beautiful new trailer that made its way online over the weekend, our excitement couldn’t be more fevered. Fox is looking to capitalize on the newfound buzz for director Ridley Scott’s “Alien” prequel/spinoff/whatever by kicking off its marketing blitz in a grand fashion, well ahead of the film’s June 8th release date.
First, two new images have cropped up online, showcasing more of the impressive designs employed on Scott’s latest feature. The first image shows the Prometheus ship in all its glory cruising across the cosmos. It’s an impressive design that once again draws comparisons to the original “Alien” series by sharing some traits of the Nostromo from the original 1979 feature, but mostly looking like something that just flew out of Cloud City in “The Empire Strikes Back.” The other image offers a brief glimpse of the planet we’ve already seen more extensively in the trailer, but still offers an impressive look at the film's design. Regardless, both whet our appetite for more “Prometheus.”
Next are two shots of Noomi Rapace, one from the latest cover of Empire, proclaiming “The New ‘Alien!’ The New Ripley!” We’ll hold off on proclaiming her the new anything just yet, but she certainly seems to fit the bill. The other image is from the cover of Australian film magazine Film Ink. On the Empire cover, Rapace is looking a little too “Tron”-like for our tastes, but it could just be some shoddy Photoshop job. On Film Ink, she stands tall among a blond Michael Fassbender and a stately looking Charlize Theron, further proving that visually she can hold her own against the better-known actors.
If you can’t tell, we’re all pretty excited for this one, what with our full analysis of the trailer and such. Now we’re just left to wonder whether Scott and crew will deliver on the majesty and promise that “Prometheus” seems to hold. We’ll find out in June…and before we go, there's a new TV spot for the film below. [Facebook/ONTD/ONTD]
