Noah Hawley is returning to features after his 2019 effort “Lucy In The Sky” and a successful stint on the small screen with recent seasons of his acclaimed series, “Fargo.” His next film will explore the thriller crime genre with quite the leading man attached, Chris Pine (“The Outlaw King”), which is a huge get for anyone. Written and directed by Hawley, “Nowhere Fast” follows a small-town criminal who inadvertently kills the nephew of his boss, which will of course put the film’s events in motion.
26 Keys Productions, Hawley’s Austin-based film and television production company, and 30WEST are producing partners on the pic. 30WEST is also financing and will co-represent the U.S. rights alongside CAA Media Finance. AGC International, the international sales arm of thriving independent studio AGC Studios, will represent the foreign rights.
This won’t be the first rodeo for Pine, when it comes to Texas thrillers, as he starred alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Foster in the Taylor Sherdian-penned bank robbing pic, “Hell Or High Water.”
Hawley was most recently involved with an “Alien” franchise series spinoff, “Alien: Earth,” which takes place just before the events of the original landmark release from 1979 and is hopeful to get multiple seasons out of the streaming project. While franchise overseer Ridley Scott producing via Scott Free, the series teaser revealed a mysterious spaceship with a face-hugger running around inside before crash-landing on Earth.
Trekkies will also remember that Hawley had once been attached to work on a “Star Trek” film and could explain the connection to Pine, as he has played a modern version of Captain Kirk and there had been plans for a fourth installment after a couple of development/contract hiccups.
We’re going to be really curious to see who Hawley selects alongside Pine as casting is currently in full swing. The director/showrunner is notable for getting quite career-defining performances from his actors, in big and small roles. Quite the pairing, for sure.
