Got a Tip?

Oliver Stone Digs Up ‘Wall Street’ Sequel Again; This Time Possibly With Shia LaBeouf (UGH)

Flashback to February 2009  when Oliver Stone, speaking about the idea of a “Wall Street” sequel, proudly told MTV, “I dropped out. I didn’t want to do another ‘Wall Street’ movie. I think everything I had to say came through.”

Cut to present day. Variety reports 20th Century Fox has set up Stone as the director for “Wall Street 2” (what a creative title) and that Shia LaBeouf is one of the actors in the mix as a possibility.

Apparently Michael Douglas will return again as the infamous, “greed is good,” Gordon Gecko and LaBeouf is in negotiations to play essentially another version of the Charlie Sheen character (a young, naive and idealistic Wall Street trader). Supposedly the picture focuses on “recent economic meltdown spurred by rampant greed and corruption will fit prominently.” Normally we would have put down money that Douglas wouldn’t have been involved, but we guess we woulda lost our shirts on that bet in a major way (that’s stock trades for ya).

Also, Oliver Stone has a struggling economy to thank for his next picture, who woulda thunk? This film is full of surprises.

Stone did try and make the sequel work, but at the time, they couldn’t really figure it out. “We invested this a while ago, but we couldn’t come up with the right way to go about it. I think there’s an interesting movie to be made in there. I’m just not interested because it’s so complex now. I don’t think people can understand security derivatives. But these types of people [on Wall Street] — essentially it’s the same mentality.”

So in February of this year Stone didn’t think that the economic fiasco the U.S. went through late last year was viable for a movie, but now it is? Or did Fox finally wake-up to the fact that there was a movie in all of this economic crumbling? Perhaps, a few i’s and t’s needed to be crossed before any announcements were made.
