So Keanu Reeves has made a directorial debut that on paper, certainly sounds intriguing. Lots of action has been promised, Tiger Hu Chen (one of the stuntmen on “The Matrix” films) and Iko Uwais of “The Raid” are among the folks throwing fists and feet in the flick, and Reeves seems to certainly have been pushing himself. And now the first teaser trailer and…well…
Maybe an A for effort? Because outside of that, this kind of looks like a new version of “Mortal Kombat” or something. Reeves seems to be playing some kind of fight fixer dude who wants to turn a Man Of Tai Chi into a cold blooded killer in what seems to be a series of fights and pretty bland looking digital filmmaking. The fight stuff looks pretty top shelf, so maybe it will be worth it for that alone, but everything around it is a bit harder to take seriously, a situation not helped by Reeves’ voiceover.
