Orale, holmes! Cheech and Chong are getting the band back together, or at least, are reuniting after several years apart.
Maybe it’s the mainstream acceptance of pot in films like “Pineapple Express,” and “Smiley Face” (though no one saw that), but either way, the duo of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong will mount their first comedy tour in 25 years (!).
Marin, always the hold out of the group, who wanted to disassociated himself from the stoner characters in the ’90s, told AP Radio that he and Chong, “looked at each [and said], `If we’re ever going to do something it has to be now because you’re not getting any younger and neither am I.'”
In an almost total about face on his stance towards pot humor in recent years, Marin is now totally ready to get high one more time. “I think it’s time for a revival of dope jokes. It’s a much bigger audience now, it’s much more widespread and institutionalized,” he said.
As for the bitterness and creative differences they’ve had over the years, Marin says it’s all water under the bridge. “We’ve gotten to the age where we don’t feel like fighting anymore because the end is a lot closer than the beginning.”
There’s no talk of a movie, yet…
