Got a Tip?

Oscar Show Will Feature Tribute To James Bond Franchise

nullRight next to discussing the performance of the Oscar host (this year it's "Family Guy" creator and "Ted" director Seth MacFarlane), the post-show conversation usually oscillates around the ratings. While the Oscars are second most-watched annual TV event behid the Super Bowl (seriously), the demographic that continues to be elusive are those all important youngsters, but this year it seems a push is being made not only to snare teens (again, MacFarlane) but hopefully some of the people around the world who helped make "Skyfall" a $1 billion dollar global success.

The Academy Awards announced today that the show will include a "special sequence…saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday." What exactly that will involve remains to be seen, but it would be pretty amazing if they managed to get everyone who has played Bond to date up on stage at the same time (though convincing Sean Connery might take some doing). We'd wager there will be some kind of sizzle reel of footage. Let's hope they don't try and get too artsy with this thing and enlist Cirque Du Soleil or something, as this is pretty much a no brainer in terms of presentation. Of course, the irony here is that the Oscars have pretty much ignored the franchise across its history, but could that change with "Skyfall"?

Oscar ballots are due later today so we'll see, and nominations will be announced next week with lots more to come before the show airs on February 24th. [Deadline]
