It’s long been rumored that Paul Rudd is a supernatural being himself. Having seemingly tapped into dark forces to prevent himself from aging, Rudd is a clear choice to work on a film that involves ghosts and other paranormal activity. And luckily, director Jason Reitman acknowledges this and has signed Rudd to appear in the upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ rebootquel.
The announcement comes courtesy of the actor himself, as he posts a video standing outside of the famous firehouse building where “Ghostbusters” takes place. Of course, there’s plenty of that signature Rudd wit and sarcasm in the announcement, with the actor saying he almost “slimed” himself when he got the news he was going to be in the film.
“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original ‘Ghostbusters’ universe,” said Reitman (via Variety).
No word on what role Rudd might play. In another universe, the actor would have likely been a candidate for one of the roles in the original film, as his brand of humor fits well with the likes of Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and the others. And considering the way these reboots/revivals tend to go, the obvious choice is that Rudd will portray the son of one of the original Busters. As on-the-nose and unoriginal as that sounds, let’s be real, that’s like the case, right?
Either way, Rudd joins the cast that already includes Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace, as well as the rumored involvement of the original cast that includes Aykroyd (like he’d miss it), Hudson, Murray, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver.
The new “Ghostbusters” is set to be released on July 10, 2020.
