The British gangster series “Peaky Blinders” is coming to an end with Season 6 set to end the show, but luckily for fans of the show, the universe will continue on with plans for a feature film and even potential spinoffs that could help keep things going beyond the flagship series.
Series creator Steven Knight recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and has given a timeline for the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” movie as the series wraps up with Season 6. Suggesting that production on the film could begin sometime in 2023, but maybe take even longer to start.
“I’m calling [Season 6] the end of the beginning. We’re going to end the series as it is at the moment, but we’re going to do the movie, which we’ll shoot in 18 months’ time, maybe a little bit longer,” Knight told EW concerning when they hope to get cameras rolling on the film.
Knight is still keen to flesh out the “Peaky Blinders” universe with spinoffs, “After that, according to how the film structure falls into place, we’ll set in motion some spin-offs that will be part of the same universe.”
However, it’s unknown what those spinoffs could look like.
Both star Cillian Murphy and Knight are busy with the actor leading Christopher Nolan‘s Atomic Bomb drama “Oppenheimer” at Universal. The showrunner is also working on a limited series adaptation of Charles Dickens‘ “Great Expectations” for FX/BCC that has Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite“) tapped for a key role and a WWII project with Ridley Scott producing titled, “Roads To Freedom.”
The final season of “Peaky Blinders” will premiere on BBC One on February 27, followed by Netflix at a later date.
