Got a Tip?

Peter Berg & Producers Are Planning A ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot

Based on a film of the same name, the “Friday Night Lights” spinoff series has become a modern classic for many viewers. Now, the producers of the show are hoping the popularity on streaming means that there’s a hunger for more teen football angst.

According to a new report from Puck, “Friday Night Lights” filmmaker Peter Berg and producers Jason Katims and Brian Grazer are shopping around a reboot of the hit NBC series. Not much is known about the plot of the show, but it’s expected to feature new characters but take place in the same world of high school football.

Katims is perhaps the most exciting name to be included in the new series. He was the head writer and showrunner of the previous series. So, for fans of the original, it’s great to see that he is included.

And before people get all upset over yet another reboot, this one might be a welcome addition to the modern TV landscape. “Friday Night Lights” existed in a world before streaming, where Network TV dominated. So, to see it possibly land on a streamer now, we could be in for a more adult take on the subject matter. And in addition, there has been so much that has happened to high school sports since 2011, that there are probably enough stories to last for plenty of seasons, so it won’t be a retread.

Obviously, it’s still too early to know when we might see “Friday Night Lights” arrive on TV screens again. But in the meantime, you can check out the original series on Netflix.
