As seen in the new trailer for the upcoming re-release of “Pi,” Darren Aronofsky’s iconic debut film is returning to theaters on Pi Day to celebrate its 25th birthday. But this isn’t just a normal re-release. The film is actually going exclusively to IMAX theaters and will feature a brand-new 8K restoration of the film.
For those who haven’t seen the film, “Pi” tells the story of a mathematician who is desperately trying to find patterns all around him. As you might expect from an Aronofsky film, this isn’t a happy journey, as the young guy descends further and further into mental illness on this quest for meaning in his life.
In addition to being the feature film debut for writer-director, Aronofsky, “Pi” also has an incredible pedigree behind the camera, as one of the first features from cinematographer Matthew Libatique, as well as the very first score from composer Clint Mansell. And if you venture to the IMAX screenings for this re-release, you’ll actually have the opportunity to watch a Q&A between Aronofsky and the various folks involved in the making of the film.
As mentioned, “Pi” heads to IMAX on March 14. You can watch the new trailer below.
