Musical biopics are a dime a dozen nowadays. The most difficult thing for a biopic to do is to set itself apart from the competition. I think Pharell Williams has figured that part out with his new film, “Piece by Piece.”

As seen in the new trailer, “Piece by Piece” is part-documentary, part-animated LEGO movie. The film tells the story of the life and career of Pharell Williams, an iconic musician and producer, but it does so with animated LEGO goodness. Every frame of the film is told using LEGO and superstar minifigs.
The film features Pharrell Williams, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg. But yeah, they’re all in LEGO form. “Piece by Piece” is directed by Morgan Neville. The filmmaker is a veteran documentarian, working on films such as “STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces,” “Mickey: The Story of a Mouse,” and “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain.”
“Piece by Piece” debuts in theaters on October 11. You can watch the new trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
