‘Pinocchio’ Trailer: Roberto Benigni Stars In Matteo Garrone’s Kids Film Coming This Christmas

With most Christmas blockbusters being pushed to 2021 and “Wonder Woman 1984” going to HBO Max at the same time as theaters, there’s a void in the holiday film lineup that “Pinocchio” is hoping to fill.

As seen in the trailer for “Pinocchio,” the recent Italian live-action adaptation of the classic tale is coming to the US this holiday season. The film stars Roberto Benigni as Geppetto, a lowly woodcarver that wishes his latest puppet, Pinocchio, would come to life and be his son. As we know from the various other adaptations, this happens, but the quest to become a real boy is far from easy for the wooden puppet.

In addition to Roberto Benigni, the cast of Matteo Garrone’s film includes Federico Ielapi, Gigi Proietti, Rocco Papaleo, Massimo Ceccherini, Marine Vacth, Alida Baldari Calabria, Maria Pia Timo, Massimiliano Gallo, Gianfranco Gallo, Davide Marotta, Teco Celio, and Enzo Vetrano. As mentioned, Garrone directed the film, which he co-wrote alongside Massimo Ceccherini. Garrone is probably best known for the films “Gomorrah,” “Tale of Tales,” and “Dogman.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Shot in stunning Italian locations, Matteo Garrone’s rich world of mystery and wonder stars Academy Award® winning actor Roberto Benigni as Geppetto, the old woodcarver whose puppet creation, Pinocchio, magically comes to life with dreams of becoming a real boy. Easily led astray, Pinocchio (nine-year-old Federico Ielapi) tumbles from one misadventure to another as he is tricked, kidnapped and chased by bandits through a wonderful world full of imaginative creatures – from the belly of a giant fish, to the Land Of Toys and the Field Of Miracles.
