Pixar Announces New 2026 ‘Hoppers’ Film; ‘Toy Story 5’ Gets Teaser & First Look [D23]

Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief creative officer, Peter Docter, also the director of “Inside Out,” “Up,” and “Soul,” said earlier today that the animation company would reveal the existence of a new animated film in Anaheim tonight. Sure enough, at Disney’s D23 Expo, Pixar announced a new film called “Hoppers,” which has been dated for March 6, 2026. Earlier in the day, he mentioned that a cut of the film had been already screened to Pixar brass and so it seems to be coming along nicely.

“Hoppers” stars Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda, and this new Pixar film introduces Mabel, an animal lover who seizes an opportunity to use new technology to ‘hop’ her consciousness into a life-like robotic animal: an adorable beaver.

Already set for June 19, 2026, with director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Dory,” “Wall-E”)  and “Elemental” producer McKenna Harris at the helm, Disney also gave some updates on “Toy Story 5.”

Stanton teased some of the film’s plot. “The toys’ jobs get exponentially harder when they come face to face with what every kid is obsessed with today—electronics,” he said from the main stage.

Here’s a brief “Toy Story 5” synopsis:

This time around, it’s Toy meets Tech when Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder as they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.

Naturally, most of the principal cast returns to voice their respective characters: Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. And though not confirmed, most of the supporting cast, Annie Potts, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Madeleine McGraw, Christina Hendricks, Ally Maki, Jay Hernandez, Lori Alan, Joan Cusack, and all the other regulars such as John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Blake Clarke, etc. are expected to return.

Co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi, “Toy Story 5” arrives June 19, 2026.

To recap, Pixar’s upcoming schedule looks like this:

“Win or Lose”— Dec 6, 2024
“Elio”— June 13, 2025
“Dream Productions” — TBD 2025
“Hoppers”— March 6, 2026
