Pixar & Disney Announces ‘The Incredibles 3’ & Teases A ‘Frozen 3’ For 2027 & 'Frozen 4' [D23]

Pixar Animation Studios Chief creative officer, Peter Docter, took the stage tonight at D23 in Anaheim, California. While he gave updates on “Toy Story 5,” the “Inside Out” Disney+ spin-off, a new film called “Hoppers,” and other projects, there’s more, including the surprise announcement of an “Incredibles 3” in development.

Set for a future release TBD, “Incredibles 3” will once again be directed by Brad BirdCraig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson are all expected to reprise their roles from the first film.

“Incredibles 2” is Pixar’s second-highest-grossing film after “Inside Out 2” and currently ranks fifth among the highest-grossing animated films of all time.

Earlier this year, a Bloomberg report suggested that Pixar would heavily invest in sequels and known properties, but in an EW article a few weeks later, Docter clarified that while sequels are part of the plan, they’re not the full story and in no way abandon original storytelling.

“One thing that I think was maybe slightly misinterpreted was the idea that we have to deliver more of what people know and maybe lean away from the personal,” he said in June. All of that’s true to some degree, but I think what we’re always trying to do is find what are the universal things that everybody believes, both in terms of concepts and in terms of life experience… There’s a limited number of those [childhood experiences that inform our storytelling, so they each have to be done in a very unique way through a specific lens. We want to hold onto that, but we want to make sure that they speak widely.”

During a later panel for Disney Animation, Bob Iger gave an update on “Frozen 3” and teased “Frozen 4” to tell the full story. Once set for a 2026 release window, “Frozen 3” was bumped to a TBD 2027 opening. All of the principal cast will return in their respective roles, including Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as Olaf, and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff.

“Frozen 3” will feature songs by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and a score by Christophe Beck.
