Rose Byrne already has one hit show with Apple TV+ in “Physical,” a dark comedy about a woman’s journey of self-discovery through the rise of the aerobics craze in 1980s San Diego. So will lightning strike twice with “Platonic“? That’s the title of Byrne’s new series coming to the streamer with Spring with co-star Seth Rogen.

According to Deadline, “Platonic” follows a pair of former best friends who reconnect as they approach midlife after a long rift. But the renewed friendship soon becomes all-consuming, destabilizing their lives in the process. Along with Byrne and Rogen in the lead roles, the series also stars Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Carla Gallo, and Andrew Lopez.
Apple TV+ premieres the first three half-hour episodes of “Platonic” on May 24, with new episodes premiering weekly after that every Wednesday. Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco co-direct, co-write, and co-create the series. Stoller also produces through the overall deal his Global Solutions has with Sony Pictures Television. The show’s leads, Stoller, Delbanco, and Conor Welch all executive produce “Platonic,” too.
Season 3 of “Physical” will premiere for Byrne on Apple TV+ later this year. And Rogen has a second Apple TV+ series of his own on the way, too. Rogen will co-write and co-direct that yet-to-be-titled comedy show with his long-time pal Evan Goldberg.
