'Polite Society' Trailer: 'We Are Lady Parts' Creator's Sundance Film Is A Martial Arts Comedy

If you haven’t seen the incredible “We Are Lady Parts,” then you really should make the effort to seek it out and watch. It’s one of the best comedy series of the past several years and really has cemented filmmaker Nida Manzoor as one of the most interesting creators working in TV today. Well, with the upcoming “Polite Society,” Manzoor takes her unique brand of comedy to the big screen and adds a dash of over-the-top martial arts action as well.

In the trailer for “Polite Society,” we are introduced to two sisters who are martial artists and aspiring stuntwomen. When the older sister begins to distance herself from her family due to impending nuptials, the younger sister believes there’s something more sinister afoot. Along with her group of friends, the younger sister goes on a mission to save her older sibling and take on an evil family. 

The cast for the action comedy includes Priya Kansara, Ritu Arya, Nimra Bucha, Akshay Khanna, Seraphina Beh, and Ella Bruccoleri. “Polite Society” is written and directed by Nida Manzoor. The filmmaker is best known for creating, writing, and directing the acclaimed comedy series, “We Are Lady Parts.” She has also directed episodes of “Doctor Who.” This marks her feature film directorial debut. 

“Polite Society” is set to make its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. After that, the film will debut in theaters on April 28. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

A merry mash up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action, POLITE SOCIETY follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.
