It's red and it pops with color. It's the new poster for Spike Lee's upcoming drama, the 6th or 7th (depending on who's counting) installment of his chronicles of Brooklyn series, "Red Hook Summer."
Starring Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Jules Brown, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Toni Lysaith, James Ransone, De'Adre Azia and many more, "Red Hook Summer" tells the story of Flik Royale (Brown), a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster–until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.
And evidently this version of "Red Hook Summer" is 14 minutes shorter than the version that screened at Sundance (read our review here) earlier this year making for a film that is just over two hours. Meanwhile, as you likely already know, Lee has a documentary in the works on the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Bad album and according to Damien Shields, the documentary is complete, and aside from featuring people like Usher and Questlove, the doc also features a diverse range of stars from different generations including Kanye West, Siedah Garrett, Chris Brown, Quincy Jones and more giving their testimonials about the lasting influence of the one and only King Of Pop.
Shot at Westlake Studios (where Jackson recorded Bad) and featuring rare never-before-seen footage from Jackson’s archives, there's no release date on the documentary yet, but but considering Bad 25 arrives on September 18, we'd image the film will land around that time. Presumably a "Red Hook Summer" trailer will arrive soon as well. [Poster Via Yahoo]
