Jean-Luc and Pierre Dardenne are Cannes Film Festival veterans and favorites. Ever since “Rosetta” took the Palme d’Or in 1999, all their films since have not only played in competition at Cannes, they’ve also won prizes — that’s right, they have two Palme d’Or, one Ecumenical and one screenplay prize from Cannes. Not too shabby. Well, they’re back on the Croisette this year and if we were betting men, we’d put money down on them walking away with something.
Their latest has finally settled on a title — “The Kid With The Bike” (for a while it was known as “Set Me Free“) and there are now some pics, a poster and synopsis for the film. Starring Cécile de France, Thomas Doret, Jérémie Renier and Fabrizio Rongione the film centers on a young boy battling his own rage after his father abandons him in a children’s home. So yeah, more fun times from the Dardenne but these pics look positively pleasant and summery though there is certainly more roiling beneath the surface. The official synopsis is below with another and the poster after the jump. [Cineart/WBImages]
