So, looking for something to put on your wall? Well there's something for every fan of cinema here from arthouse lovers, to high concept comedy fans and RPatz devotees.
Kicking things off, Whit Sillman's "Damsels In Distress" gets a playful first poster. The film is a welcome return to form from the long absent director, with the story centering on four girls — Greta Gerwig, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Carrie MacLemore — who navigate love, life and death at college. It's all presented in Stillman's still distinctive voice, which may drive you batty if you're not willing to roll with it. But we enjoyed the film's arch approach when we saw it at TIFF, even if it waned by the end. The film opens on April 6th.
Keira Knightley will go from getting spanked to delivering laughs in the ambitious "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World." The film, written and directed by "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist" scribe Lorene Scarfaria, centers on a man (Steve Carell) who decides to find his high school sweetheart as an Earth-destroying asteroid makes it way towards the planet. "It's about what happens when you know you've only got about twenty days until an asteroid hits Earth, and what happens to society in that time. It's a very, very dark comedy. It's also weirdly for its subject matter incredibly optimistic and sort of life-affirming. I thought it was one of the best scripts I've read, really," Knightley told us about the movie last month. We're definitely curious and we'll see what it's all about when it opens on June 22nd.
Finally, RPatz wears the shit out of some old timey clothes in the one sheet for "Bel Ami." Based on the book by Guy de Maupassant and featuring Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, “Bel Ami” will find Pattinson playing George Duroy, a sexy social climber in turn-of-the-century 1890s Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning. Sony picked up the film for the U.S. but no word of a release date yet, but with reviews from Berlin where it will premiere set to arrive any day now, we'll soon find out if it's Sony Pictures Classics material or if it will be scuttled off onto the Stage 6 DVD label.
