The last time the iconic Predator terrorized the silver screen, it was in the 2010 action horror sequel “Predators.” Now, he has returned with a vengeance but this time, he’s bringing some friends. “The Predator,” the latest franchise installment, depicts a group of genetically advanced Predators which could be a huge plus. Having more Predators potentially equals more action. Not to mention, this latest, and presumably final, trailer actually looks pretty good. For real.
The famed villain is going from hunting his way through the jungle to terrorizing the suburbs. But it is up to a crew of soldiers, a child (Jacob Tremblay), and a science teacher (Olivia Munn) to try and stop the Predators. And for the first time in this new version of the film, we learn why the alien is actually called “predator” and not just a “sports hunter.” The verdict? “We took a vote and ‘Predator’ is cooler.” The soldier crew includes actors like Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, and Thomas Jane.Â
Besides the talented cast and killer action, an added bonus is that “The Predator” is being directed by Shane Black. After helming the underseen “The Nice Guys,” Black is making a pretty grand return to the action genre. Anyone who’s seen “Iron Man 3” knows that he’s quite capable of handling blockbuster fare.
Judging by the trailer, it looks like Black successfully pulls off the horror elements that are just as integral to the franchise as the action spectacle. Oh yeah and there’s plenty of that witty Shane Black-trademark banter.
“The Predator” will have its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival before being released in theaters on September 14th.
