I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of done with the summer movie season. Outside of “Jason Bourne” and “Suicide Squad,” if I don’t see anything else until September, I’d be just fine with that. But at least there’s television to pass the time on those long, hot summer evenings, and this weekend, Netflix drops one of their most hotly buzzed new shows. And to get the excitement cooking just a little bit more, they’ve released the first eight minutes from “Stranger Things.”
Led by Winona Ryder, and featuring Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, David Harbour, and Noah Schnapp, the series looks to be taking a page from Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin movies, and ratcheting up the thrills. “Stranger Things” revolves around mysterious disappearances in a small town, and the secrets that are revealed as the investigation unfolds. Here’s the official synopsis:
99 out of a hundred times, the missing kid is with a parent or relative. What about the other time?
A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80’s, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.
“Stranger Things” arrives on July 15th. [EW]
