Steven Soderbergh is one of the most prolific filmmakers working today. He is constantly working on something new and releasing films left and right. But when you look at his filmography, one genre is notably absent—horror. But thanks to the new film “Presence,” it looks like we’re finally getting a horror film as only Soderbergh could make.

As seen in the trailer, “Presence” is a ghost story unlike any other. In the film, the viewer is given the POV of the actual ghost that is haunting the home that a family has recently moved into. You see the drama unfold from the view of the actual spirit.
The film stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, West Mulholland, and Julia Fox. As mentioned, the film is directed by Steven Soderbergh, based on a script by David Koepp.
We saw “Presence” during its time at this year’s Sundance. In our review, we said, “But this unconventional ghost story also works as well as it does because Soderbergh is a master at disguising the work as an organic thrill ride. While he can’t help but cheat out a little bit here to show his work, it makes the film’s unsettling menace both memorable and magical.”
“Presence” is set to arrive in theaters in January 2025. You can watch the new teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
A family moves into a suburban home and becomes convinced they are not alone.
