Got a Tip?

Producer Says ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Director’s Cut Coming Later This Year

X-Men: Days Of Future PastWinning over both audiences and critics, "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" managed to take a complicated timeline and dozens of characters, and create something that made more sense and was more exciting than it probably had any right to be. And in the lead up to the film, there was much talk about the roles that were reduced and/or cut during the editing process, most notably those of Rogue (Anna Paquin) and Storm (Halle Berry). Well, not to fear, as they are likely to be added back into the film.

Producer Lauren Donner Shuler recently answered a fan query on Twitter and confirmed a director’s cut of "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" is coming later this year. Check out the response below:

Granted, details are fuzzy, but Rogue did have a much larger part, as was revealed earlier this spring. Originally, Rogue was to absorb Kitty Pryde’s powers after she gets accidentally injured by Wolverine, in order to keep Logan in the past.
"I thought it would increase the urgency and the stakes of the plot in the future, but it actually does the opposite, because it makes you feel like there is an answer out there," Kingberg previously explained about cutting the scene. "You think once Rogue gets here, we’ll have an unlimited amount of time. The ticking clock that we’d established with Kitty getting wounded and losing her powers…well, Rogue would show up and press stop on the clock. So for all of those narrative reasons, there was this ten-minute subplot that had to go."

Meanwhile, another sequence that was excised followed Professor X, Magneto, and Iceman embarking on a mission to rescue Rogue from the Sentinels. And we presume it was another subplot that there just wasn’t time for, that might make it to this extended version later this year.

No date yet on the DVD/Blu-ray, where we’d guess these beefed up versions will appear, as the film is still in theaters. But we reckon it’ll arrive in time for Santa Claus to put it under your tree. [Flickering Myth]
