Got a Tip?

Quentin Tarantino Admits To Watching ‘Reservoir Dogs’ In Theaters Every Day When It Was Released

In retrospect, it’s hard to imagine any time that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino questioned whether or not he’d have a career in Hollywood. However, even after making his feature directing debut with “Reservoir Dogs,” Tarantino didn’t know if there would be a second film, which led him to fully embrace the release of his debut, as detailed in a new interview with Little White Lies.

When talking about one of the standout scenes in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” where Margot Robbie, as Sharon Tate, sits in a theater during the day and watches her film on the big screen, Tarantino talked about his first time watching one of his films in a theater. And while he got plenty of chances to watch “Reservoir Dogs” in a theater thanks to film festivals, that didn’t stop the director from adding to the box office total as much as he could.

“The year I did ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ I saw it in movie theaters all around the world because I spent a year on the film festival circuit,” said Tarantino. “So, that was that, but when it opened in Los Angeles, I saw it every day during its four-week run.”

He laughed and added, “I didn’t know if I was going to make a second movie, so I was going to watch this one.”

Obviously, now that he’s established as one of the biggest names in filmmaking, you probably can’t expect to see Tarantino spending day after day at the local theater watching his films and relishing in his status in Hollywood. However, there is something charming about a filmmaker on his level admitting to having this sort of proud moment in time when he was embracing the situation and not letting go of his experience, just in case the book of his Hollywood career was closed after that.
