Did you know that Rachel McAdams was in a Marvel Studios film already? I like to think of myself as a pretty big Marvel fan, as a lifelong comic book reader, but I completely forgot she was in Scott Derrickson’s “Doctor Strange.” That isn’t to say she’s a bad actor because that’s absolutely not the case. She’s a damn treasure that should be an even bigger star than she is. But “Doctor Strange” really hasn’t stuck around in my brain as long as some of the other MCU films. Hopefully, McAdams can make a lasting impression in the next film, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

According to Deadline, McAdams has closed a deal to return to the “Doctor Strange” franchise in the new sequel directed by Sam Raimi that is currently in production. In the original film, McAdams portrayed Christine Palmer, a fellow doctor that worked with Stephen Strange before he became the Sorcerer Supreme. Unfortunately, her role was similar to that of Natalie Portman in the early “Thor” films, relegated to little more than a love interest. Well, with the multiversal hijinks that are guaranteed in ‘Multiverse of Madness,’ let’s see some good McAdams stuff. Get her a super suit in some sort of an alternate reality, dammit!
McAdams joins returning cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Elizabeth Olsen is set to join the cast as Wanda Maximoff, a character she has portrayed in multiple MCU films. They all are joined by the newest cast member to the MCU family, Xochitl Gomez, who many believe will be portraying Marvel hero, America Chavez.

Not much is known about the plot of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” but the title does paint a pretty clear picture, huh? That said, with Wanda Maximoff on board, there’s a clear tie between this film and the new show, “WandaVision.” And with Cumberbatch joining “Spider-Man 3,” there are many that believe the events of ‘Madness’ will be affected by that franchise, as well. We shall see.
For now, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is expected to arrive in theaters on March 25, 2022.
