Radio Silence & Project X Entertainment Team Up Again For A New Mystery Monster Film At Universal

The Radio Silence filmmaking team had another big horror hit this year with “Scream VI,” their follow-up to last year’s franchise “re-quel” “Scream.” Now Deadline reports its members will team up with Project X Entertainment as they did on those films for a new untitled Monster movie at Universal.

Radio Silence had this project lined up after “Scream” last year but had to postpone it after Paramount greenlit “Scream 6” quickly after the 2022 film’s box office success. As a result, Universal put its secretive monster pic on hold. However, Deadline says it’s in the vein of the studio’s recent revamps of their classic monsters, including “The Invisible Man” and “Renfield,” in theaters this weekend. With new Dracula and The Invisible Man movies already, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Creature Of The Black Lagoon remain. So which one does Radio Silence have in mind? Probably not “The Mummy,” as the 2017 Tom Cruise blockbuster did dismally at the box office.

For those who don’t know, the Radio Silence group is Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella. The production company started working on the “V/H/S” horror anthology series before breaking into the mainstream with 2019’s “Ready Or Not.” The upcoming monster pic marks their third collab in a row with Project X’s William SherakPaul Neinstein, and James VanderbiltTripp Vinson also produces. Meanwhile, Jay PolidoroHolly GolineKelly Cannon, and Jacqueline Garell oversee things for Universal

Vanderbilt helped co-write the script for “Scream VI,” so Radio Silence and Project X obviously like to work together.  Stephen Shields pens this monster film, though, with revisions by Guy Busick (who did the same thing on the last two “Scream” films and “Ready Or Not”). Sheilds also pens Lee Cronin‘s upcoming “Box Of Bones” after the two worked together on Cronin’s debut “A Hole In The Ground.” Meanwhile, Project X produced what’s Netflix‘s biggest new series so far this year, “The Night Agent.” So both production houses and their frequent collaborators are on the rise in the industry.

Moving ahead with this monster movie means that Radio Silence and Paramount will likely hold off on “Scream 7,” at least for a while. But expect that to get a greenlight sooner than later since it set the franchise record at the global box office with $67.1 million. So will Radio Silence usher in a new golden age of horror over at Universal? Only time will tell, but this filmmaking crew has a lot of good karma right now.
