Earlier this year Magic Storm Entertainment was announced and a finance company partially launched by legendary Marvel idea man Stan Lee, for the sole purpose of creating new superhero properties for Asian audiences. Well, Variety is reporting that Magic Storm has just announced its first project, called "The Annihilator," and they've hired screenwriter Dan Gilroy, who is at least somewhat to blame for "Real Steel," to write the screenplay.
Dan is part of the impossibly creative Gilroy clan that includes older brother Tony Gilroy (writer/director director of the upcoming "Bourne Legacy") and twin brother John Gilroy (one of Hollywood's hottest editors -"Warrior," "Salt"). Before unloading "Real Steel" on us, he had a brush with superhero stardom, having written the "Superman Lives" screenplay that Tim Burton was going to direct with Nic Cage as the Man of Steel.
This new project is, according to Variety, about a "young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice." And this is different from any other superhero how? Should this get further than the script phase, this will be the first production for Magic Storm, a joint creation of Stan Lee's Pow! Entertainment, Hong Kong-based Ricco Capital Holdings and Fedelis Entertainment, which sounds like an erectile disfunction drug.
