For years now, Hollywood has been trying to relaunch Goldie Hawn‘s 1980 star-making comedy “Private Benjamin.” At one point many, many years ago, Anna Faris was tapped for the lead, but the project never went anywhere and we haven’t heard about it for a while. But like all things in tinseltown today, no project is ever dead, and indeed it has risen once again with a new actress to power it.
The Wrap reports that “Bridesmaids” and “Pitch Perfect” breakout star Rebel Wilson is now enlisted for the remake. It’s a pretty good choice we’d say, with Wilson’s unhinged energy something a bit different from Hawn (or Faris for that matter), which could lend the otherwise rote premise—a redneck and rich girl enlist in the Marines—a kick in the teeth. There’s no director just yet, and if Wilson’s ABC sitcom “Super Fun Night” gets renewed, that means her schedule is tied up for the next little while anyway. So one to put in the slow cooker for now.
Until then, here’s the trailer for the original.
