Got a Tip?

Richard Kelly Reveals Some Soundtrack Details For ‘The Box’

After Cameron Diaz went ahead and dropped some major spoiler bombs about the film at Comic Con, and given the release date shuffle the film is receiving, it’s amazing that Richard Kelly wants to keep talking about the increasingly terrible sounding “The Box” at all. But if there is anything worth discussing, it appears to be music.

Richard Kelly has revealed on his Twitter page the first five songs that appear in the film in chronological order, and it’s not too shabby, though note, he did reveal most of who these artists would be in an interview earlier this year, but song details are in. Links to songs where applicable.

1. “Scarlet Begonias” – The Grateful Dead
2. “Bell Bottom Blues” – Derek & The Dominos
3. “Mustang Sally” – Wilson Pickett
4. “Can’t You See” – The Marshall Tucker Band
5. “When Joanna Loved Me” – Scott Walker

Kelly also says he’s working with Win and Regine of The Arcade Fire to release the score of the film, which he’s already said in previous interviews. What he likely means here is determining which label will handle the release. Though the Arcade Fire are on Merge, the studio will probably want the higher-profile-than-usual soundtrack released on one of their imprints, but the notoriously control-happy Arcade Fire generally get what they want. And Kelly had to really spend months to woo them into participating on this project, so it’ll be interesting to see how that minor potential dilemma pans out.

“The Box” is (for now) slated to hit theaters on November 6th, where it will open up against, and probably be decimated by, Robert Zemeckis’ 3D “A Christmas Carol.”

Here’s Walker’s cinematic “When Joanna Loved Me” performed on the Dusty Springfield show.
