Ridley Scott is currently in the middle of promoting his second film of 2021, “The House of Gucci.” But even for a guy that has released two films in 2021, he still has a number of other projects in the pipeline, including a new Joaquin Phoenix film “Kitbag,” which will film in early-2022 and two new TV series based on his most famous franchises, “Blade Runner” and “Alien.”
Speaking to the BBC, Scott was updating a number of his upcoming projects. As mentioned, he confirmed “Kitbag,” the film about Napoleon Bonaparte, starring Joaquin Phoenix, will hopefully begin production in January. He also talked about his two TV projects, including the already-announced “Alien” series, as well as a new live-action “Blade Runner” project.
“We [have already] written the pilot for ‘Blade Runner’ and the bible,” explained Scott. “So, we’re already presenting ‘Blade Runner’ as a TV show, the first 10 hours.”
As for the already-announced “Alien” TV series over at FX, Scott said that the series is getting a “similar” treatment with a bible of the first season and the pilot episode already written. He’s working with “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley on the new show.
It’s unclear who all is involved with the “Blade Runner” series. And we also don’t know where we might see the show land, whether it’ll be streaming or on a cable network. The live-action series would join the just-released animated show, “Blade Runner: Black Lotus,” which debuted on Adult Swim.
It’s also unclear when the “Blade Runner” series will take place, if it’ll be sandwiched in between the Scott-directed original film and the 2017 Denis Villeneuve “Blade Runner 2049” feature (similar to ‘Black Lotus’) or if it’ll be a new timeline that has yet to be explored. But if you’re a fan of “Blade Runner” and hoping to see Scott rejoin the franchise in some capacity, you’re in luck.
