Got a Tip?

Ridley Scott To Direct ‘Queen And Country’ Adaptation For Fox

After scrambling towards the end of 2017 to finish his Oscar-nominated film “All the Money in the World,” you might think that director Ridley Scott is looking to take some time off before his next film. Well, that doesn’t seem like the case at all. According to a new report, it looks like the famous director is moving into the British spy genre, but not with that womanizing numbered agent that likes his drinks shaken.

The Wrap is reporting that Scott has lined up “Queen and Country” for his next film. The film will be based on the award-winning graphic novel by Greg Rucka. “Queen and Country” tells the story of Tara Chance, a spy in the Special Operations Section of MI6. Instead of focusing on the outlandish gadgets and over-the-top villains like Bond is known for, “Queen and Country” kept things more realistic, looking at bureaucracy and politics that go along with the normal action of the spy genre.

Previously, “Queen and Country” had been thrown around as a starring vehicle for actress Ellen Page, who at the time was coming off a star-making role in “Juno.” As with many projects, that version of the film fell apart before filming could begin. No actress has been set for the Scott version of “Queen and Country.” However, with female spies being all the rage, as seen in “Red Sparrow” and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in various Marvel Cinematic Universe films, the role of Tara Chance could be a great opportunity for an actress looking for a franchise.

There’s also no confirmation if Scott would want to have a new script. “Queen and Country” has been passed around to a variety of writers, including John Rogers, Ryan Condel, Olivia Milch, and creator Greg Rucka, himself.

Scott has also been rumored to helm Disney’sThe Merlin Saga,” but there’s no word on whether those talks had fallen apart, or if “Queen and Country” is his new first-priority.
