Got a Tip?

‘The Right Stuff’ Teaser: Nat Geo’s NASA Drama Series Comes To Disney+ This Fall

Who says Disney+ is the place only for kid-friendly stuff? Sure, real-life issues such as marital strife and underage partying might be enough to get “Love, Victorbooted onto Hulu, but Disney+ isn’t afraid to showcase some drama, as we see in the new announcement that “The Right Stuff” is coming to the streamer.

According to Deadline, “The Right Stuff” is moving from National Geographic to Disney+ to get an even bigger showcase. The drama follows the heroic astronauts of Mercury 7 and the trials and tribulations that the people involved with that initiative went through. The series is based on Tom Wolfe’s bestselling non-fiction book and is executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and showrun by Mark Lafferty. The showrunner is probably best known for his producing work on acclaimed series such as “Halt and Catch Fire,” “Genius,” and “Tales from the Loop.”

Courteney Monroe, president, National Geographic Global Television Networks said, “This true story of scientific innovation and human perseverance could not be more timely. National Geographic’s ‘The Right Stuff’ is an aspirational story about exploration, ambition, determination and resilience and reminds us that human beings can achieve the extraordinary when united by a common purpose. This series provides a compelling behind-the-scenes look at the flawed, but heroic Mercury 7 astronauts and we are thrilled that it has found its perfect home on Disney+.”

“As our audiences around the world turn to Disney+ to find inspiration and optimism, we believe the true-life heroism of the Mercury 7 will showcase the tenacity of the human spirit and inspire a new generation to reach for the stars,” added Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+. “The wonderful team of storytellers at National Geographic, Warner Horizon Scripted Television and Appian Way have crafted a compelling and entertaining tale and we are honored to give it a global home as the first scripted Disney+ original series from National Geographic.”

There’s no official release date but “The Right Stuff” is set to debut on Disney+ sometime this fall. That’s a good thing for the new streaming platform, as the COVID-19 pandemic, along with some unfortunate scheduling has left a pretty big hole on Disney+ when it comes to original content. So, the arrival of Nat Geo’s new series is just what the service needs.
