‘RIP’: Netflix Lands Crime Thriller Starring Ben Affleck & Matt Damon

Gone are the days when streaming studios had seemingly limitless bank accounts and would throw money at every filmmaker in town to make films. Now, we are seeing streamers act a bit more reasonably in terms of spending. That said, if you get folks like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck together for a film, you better believe Netflix will write you a check. According to Deadline, Netflix has landed the previously announced film “RIP.

The film stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and Joe Carnahan will direct it. Not much is known about the plot other than that it’s a crime thriller, which is already Carnahan’s bread and butter (see films like “Narc”).

It’s no surprise that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are working together on a project. They’ve been friends for decades and have done numerous projects together. However, since 2022, they launched Artists Equity, their production shingle that has released several projects, with quite a few in development. The biggest project released by them so far is their first—the critically acclaimed “Air.”

Carnahan is also no stranger to working with Affleck. The duo collaborated on the underrated action film, “Smokin’ Aces.” Since then, Carnahan has continued to work in the action/thriller genre with films such as “Boss Level,” “The Grey,” and most recently, “Cop Shop.”

It’s still too soon to know when we might see “RIP” debut on the streamer. As you can imagine, Affleck and Damon are busy guys. That said, we’ll definitely keep an eye out for more information as it becomes available.
