Got a Tip?

‘The Road’ Still Undergoing Tweaks, Nick Cave And Warren Ellis Still Scoring New Music

As we reported months ago, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are scoring the music to the adaptation of novelist Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road,” starring Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee (with appearances by Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce).

Well, Anne Thompson wasn’t kidding when she said the film wouldn’t be ready for the fall film festival season cause it was still undergoing tweaks. Due November 14. Well, the filmmakers are apparently still working on the film (which granted isn’t out of the ordinary).Speaking to the L.A. Times, Cave said he and Ellis are still receiving new edits with directions to add new musical cues to these tweaks.

“We’re working on The Road, and a new edit gets sent every three days or so and your way of seeing can completely change from it, from just leaving a lingering look for three seconds longer or something like that.”

One of our favorite scores of 2007 was Cave and Ellis’ haunting and lullaby-esque compositions written for “The Assassination of Jesse James,” so this might be our most highly anticipated original score of the year. Like we said, a film being completed down to the wire isn’t unheard of and sometimes even commonplace, but let’s hope they’re still on track for the Nov 7 release.
