It was only last month that we were noting how Emmy winning “Modern Family” star Ty Burrell was making some serious strides into the movie world in 2012, with indie flicks “Goats” and “Butter” on the way, as well as having recently signed up for the “Jackie Brown” prequel “Switch.” And he’s taking yet another part, though he won’t be working with one of the biggest A-list actors in Hollywood.
It was over a year ago that it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. would lead the voice talents for DreamWorks Animation‘s “Mr. Peabody And Sherman.” But it seems he has moved on leaving the role of Mr. Peabody open, as THR reports that Burrell will be bringing the beloved Sherman to life. Of course, the cartoon duo were part of the “Rocky & Bullwinkle Show,” and it centered on a genius dog, Mr. Peabody and his pet boy Sherman, who used the the WABAC Machine to travel through history, learning things along the way. The upcoming film will be a computer animated 3D affair, as things are these days, with the story that will find that someone has stolen the WABAC Machine and it is using it to change history.
It will be interesting to see how DreamWorks markets this considering the actual child audience they are pitching this toward probably have no idea whose these characters are. But they are likely hoping the kids who grew up watching the show now have kids of their own, and will be compelled to take them out to see this. “The Lion King” and “Stuart Little” helmer Rob Minkoff gets the chair with his name on it. No word yet on who will replace RDJ. The film will hit theaters on March 21, 2014.
