First announced way back in 2018, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Duncan Jones’ “Rogue Trooper” film. The sci-fi animated film is apparently very much still in production, and now, we know who will be lending their voices for the film.
According to Variety, Aneurin Barnard, Hayley Atwell and Jack Lowden are leading the cast for the upcoming sci-fi film, “Rogue Trooper,” written and directed by Duncan Jones. This film marks the first feature for Jones since the release of “Mute” in 2018. “Rogue Trooper” is an adaptation of a character found in the “2000 A.D.” comic book series and tells the story of a genetically modified soldier in the middle of a war on the planet of Nu-Earth.

Barnard is probably best known for his roles in “The Goldfinch” and “Dunkirk.” In the new film, he’ll star as the eponymous Rogue Trooper. He’s joined by Atwell, famous for her role as Peggy Carter in the MCU, as well as the most recent “Mission: Impossible” film, and Jack Lowden, who is a solid actor who can be seen in the criminally underrated “Slow Horses.” They’re also joined by Jemaine Clement (“Avatar 2: The Way of Water”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Diane Morgan (“Cunk on Earth”), Alice Lowe (“Black Mirror”), Asa Butterfield (“Sex Education”),Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones”), Daryl McCormack (“Bad Sisters”), and Reece Shearsmith (“Inside No. 9”).
Interestingly, the film is being made using a video game engine—Epic’s Unreal 5. Typically, this would mean that some motion-capture would be implemented, so these roles could be more than just vocal performances. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see how the video game technology translates to a full-on feature film.
No release date for the film is known now, but principal photography is said to be done and it’s being reported that the film will actually finish sometime next year. So, a 2025 release seems all but certain at this point.
