Considering it was one of the most profitable films of 2011 — $97 million in ticket sales off a paltry $1.5 million budget, that’s a lot of profit– we’re surprised this wasn’t announced sooner. Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson and director James Wan will all return to reprise their respective roles in the sequel to “Insidious.”
Creatively titled, "Insidious Chapter 2," Film District has announced that they will release the horror film on August 30, 2013. Wan will be competing against himself next summer as his next picture, "The Conjuring" is already set to hit theaters July 19th, 2013.
Also back into the fold are actors Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins. Leigh Whannell, who also wrote the original film will also pen the sequel. "Insidious" chronicled a family who looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called ‘The Further.’
Production on the sequel is set to begin on January 15, 2013 in Los Angeles. Wan recently signed up to helm a feature-length version of the 1980s "MacGyver" TV series starring Richard Dean Anderson, but presumably that one will have to wait. Meanwhile, photos of Wan’s “The Conjuring” starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lily Taylor and Ron Livingston were recently released and you can see them below via Shock TilYouDrop.
