‘Runaways’ Season 2 Trailer: That Other, Other Team Of Marvel Superheroes Returns To Hulu In December

Hulu landed themselves a bona fide hit late last year with “Runaways,” a Marvel comic-turned-TV show. Unlike Netflix and their grittier slate of “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” et al, “Runaways” focuses on a group of enhanced teenagers and their struggles with their parents…who also happened to be supervillains. As the second season gears up, questions about the town’s secret cult, blood sacrifices, living dinosaurs, and a budding lesbian romance abound. And the new trailer for the season shows we’re going to get a lot of answers, and probably a whole bunch of new questions.

“Runaways” is an interesting entry into the extended Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially now that Marvel bosses have all but conceded that these television characters and their stories will never integrate into the larger movie universe. This seems to have freed up the writers for these projects to explore their worlds without any concern for how things tie into the doings of Thor, Captain America, and the rest of Marvel’s A-listers. Critics and audiences responded positively to “Runaways” last season, and this creative freedom likely had something to do with that success.

“Runaways” returns on December 21 with the most of its cast intact, which includes Rheny Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Ariela Barer, Virginia Gardner, James Marsters, and Kip Pardue. With more critical acclaim than the CW’s The Flash” or “Arrow,” and a more accessible set of characters with far fewer stab wounds and stitches than Netflix’s “Defenders,” “Runaways” seems poised to make some tracks.
