What’s Sam Mendes have in store next for audiences after 2022’s “Empire Of Light“? Well, World Of Reel reports (via The InSneider) that it may be not one movie, but four: biopics on each member of arguably the greatest pop-rock group ever, The Beatles. Yup, that’s a movie each for John, Paul, George, and Ringo. In other words, eat your heart of Peter Jackson: “The Beatles: Get Back” may no longer be the apex of Beatles visual projects any longer.

But what’s super-enticing about this report is the cast: a veritable who’s who of young British acting talent. Harrison Dickinson will play John Lennon, Paul Mescal is Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe is George Harrison. Rowe may be a step below the other three, but he’s had memorable recent roles in the likes of “Slow Horses” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Plus, he has a role in Noah Baumbach‘s upcoming Netflix film, which should give him more buzz as filming from these four films approaches.
Mendes will direct all four of them, with each one centering on a particular Beatle’s POV. However, they’ll all interconnect, so expect all four actors to appear in each movie. And Mendes apparently has the blessings of Apple Corps. to get these films made. Sony chief Tom Rothman also told THR that Mendes plans to start shooting the projects mid-next year in the UK, so it’s safe to say these won’t hit theater screens until 2027 at the earliest.
If the rumors are true, Sam Mendes has a formidable foursome to lead his sequence of Beatles biopics. And the filmmaker is at the stage in his career where Mendes can do whatever he wants, so more power to him. Let’s hope for his sake a project of this magnitude doesn’t end up a blunder.
