Got a Tip?

Sam Rockwell Joins Brad Pitt In Andrew Dominik’s ‘Cogan’s Trade’

Despite Rumors, Reps For Zoe Saldana and Josh Brolin Say The Two Actors Are Not Involved

Needless to say, we’ve been aching for a new film from Andrew Dominik who dropped the masterpiece “The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford” that was bungled by Warner Bros. and pretty much ignored by audiences (for shame). Well, for his next pic it looks like he’s getting the Jesse James gang back together. Brad Pitt is already locked in and now, another actor from ‘Assassination’ is officially on board.

Deadline reports that Sam Rockwell has joined the film. Awesome. An adaptation of the pulp crime novel by George V. Higgins (the author of “The Friends Of Eddie Coyle“), the story follows a mob enforcer trying to track down the thieves who ripped off a high stakes card game. No word yet on Rockwell’s role, but he joins Bella Heathcote, the only other talent officially confirmed so far.

An array of actors has been rumored to be circling, including Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Bill Murray, Josh Brolin and Zoe Saldana. We’ve been doing some digging and reps for Saldana have told us that she has not been offered a role, and if someone wants to shoot us Bill Murray’s 1-800 number so we can give him a ring, that would be great. Interestingly. Update: Brolin’s reps tell us that he’s not doing the film either. Casey Affleck, who first talked up the project last fall, is still not confirmed.

The film is set to shoot in Louisiana this March, which makes sense considering the plan was always to change up the Boston setting of the novel. We’d wager that immense tax breaks from the state of New Orleans are probably a driving factor in the decision. No release date yet but don’t be surprised when it tops our Most Anticipated 2012 list when we post that around this time next year.
