It looks like Jon Favreau and Sam Rockwell are new BFFs as Rockwell is now set to work with Favreau again on his next pic, the comic adaptation “Cowboys Vs. Aliens.”
The film is set to shoot in June, features an already loaded cast including Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford (!) and follows cowboys-and-Indians who face off against alien invaders. Daniel Craig is set to play lead gunslinger Zeke Jackson (in a role originally slated for Robert Downey Jr. who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with “Sherlock Holmes 2,” which has now moved to the fall, allowing RDJ to join “Gravity” instead); Olivia Wilde as Ella and Harrison Ford as a cargo ship driver who…..nah, just kidding, but he’s in this and we’re guessing his role will definitely riff on his iconic background in a certain blockbuster sci-fi franchise. As for Rockwell, he’ll play a bar owner named Doc. Apparently, Rockwell’s interest in the film caused screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, to redraft and expand his role.
After spending the last 4 or so years living and breathing “Iron Man,” we’re interested (and glad) to see Favreau moving in a slightly different direction. His light touch on comic book films has frankly been a breath of fresh air, and it’s something the usually self-serious or overly reverent genre could use.
