Samuel L. Jackson has just boarded the second series-starring role of his career. As recently reported by Variety, Jackson will star in “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” for Apple TV+.
In the six-episode series, Jackson will star as the titular Ptolemy Grey, a quietly withering 91-year-old man on the brink of deep dementia. Opportunities soon change for Ptolemy when he’s given the power to regain his memories. Through his cerebral, intrinsic journey into the past, he learns to come to terms with his family tragedies and wounds.
The series is based on author Walter Mosley’s novel of the same title. Mosley has also been tapped to adapt his book for the screen and produce the series alongside Jackson. Also producing with Apple Studios is Diane Houslin, and David Levine and Eli Selden of Anonymous Content.
This is now the second time Sam Jackson has teamed with Apple. Earlier this year, he starred opposite Anthony Mackie in “The Banker.” This is also Jackson’s second-leading role he will have in a television series; the first being a Disney+ series based on Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” comics, in which he will reprise his role as Nick Fury.
Novelist Walter Mosley’s “Devil in a Blue Dress” was adapted by Carl Franklin for his 1995 film. Additionally, Mosley has been a contributing writer and producer for “Snowfall” throughout its four-season run on FX.
It’s unclear when “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” will arrive on Apple TV+. Presumably, it isn’t the next project on his list, as he has various projects already announced, including the aforementioned Marvel Studios series that should arrive on Disney+ within the next couple of years.
