You may not realize this because the discussion surrounding Netflix films, as of late, revolves around “Don’t Look Up” and the various major action blockbusters that the streamer is funding, but Sandra Bullock’s new film, “The Unforgivable,” is already one of the most popular films to hit Netflix in quite some time, if you believe the streamer’s numbers. So, with that knowledge, it’s obvious why filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt is already lining up her next big drama.

According to Protagonist Pictures, the company will be hitting the upcoming European Film Market with a new project titled, “The Outrun,” from filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt. The film, which is set to star four-time Oscar nominee, Saoirse Ronan, is based on a memoir of the same name from author Amy Liptrot. “The Outrun” follows Ronan’s character as she comes back to her hometown after having quite a bit of time away, as well as a recent stint in rehab. As is typically the case with this sort of film, drama ensues.
As mentioned, Fingscheidt is probably best known for her recent film, “The Unforgivable.” However, before that, she also helmed the 2019 feature, “System Crasher,” which debuted at that year’s Berlin International Film Festival and was eventually named as Germany’s selection for the Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar category, though it did not receive an official nomination.
Ronan, as mentioned, is one of the most celebrated actors working today. Her most recent film is Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch.” Before that, she earned acclaim for films such as “Atonement,” “Brooklyn,” “Lady Bird,” and “Little Women.” Her next film is the upcoming mystery, “See How They Run.”
Obviously, it’s still too early to know which studio will nab “The Outrun” and when we might see it arrive in theaters or on a streaming service.
